Chelsea fullback Marc Cucurella has hailed 2024 as the pinnacle of his football career.
Reflecting on the year, the Spanish international celebrated winning the European Championship and contributing to Chelsea’s push for the Premier League title.
In an interview with Marca, Cucurella revealed that overcoming an injury was a transformative experience.
He explained how the rehabilitation process reshaped his perspective, teaching him the value of daily effort and resilience, which ultimately led to his call-up to Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish squad.
“It was a year of highs and lows. I didn’t play in the first seven league games, and there were opportunities to leave, but I chose to stay.
I spoke with Pochettino, told him I was ready, and got my chance when both right-backs were unavailable. Though I had little experience there, I embraced the role.
After playing Brighton, I gained confidence, playing regularly until an injury sidelined me. It felt like starting over, but it was a turning point.”
