Mathias Pogba, the brother of former Manchester United star Paul Pogba, was sentenced to three years in prison by a Paris criminal court on Thursday, with two of those years suspended, in connection with an extortion and kidnapping case, ESPN reports.
Mathias had already spent time in detention, and the remaining sentence will be served under house arrest with electronic monitoring.
The sentence aligns with the prosecution’s request, though his lawyer has stated they will appeal the ruling.
The trial at the Paris criminal court proceeded without Pogba’s presence.
A judge had ordered Mathias and five other men to stand trial following an investigation into an alleged extortion scheme targeting Paul Pogba, orchestrated by his brother and childhood friends in 2022.
