Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed Mykhailo Mudryk’s failed drug test.
The 23-year-old, who is currently suspended and unable to play or train with the team, has received strong support from his manager, who spoke to the media for the first time since the news emerged.
Maresca affirmed that Mudryk is innocent and expressed full trust in his player following his provisional suspension by the Football Association for failing a drug test.
“We are all upset and saddened,” Maresca said. “We are offering him our full support.”
“We trust Mykhailo, and when situations like this arise, it’s important to support your player in every way. He is part of my squad, so it’s my responsibility to stay in touch with him. We’re all here for him—his teammates, the club, and myself.
“Trust means we believe in Mykhailo and are backing him. We want to assist him in any way he needs. It’s only natural that, at this moment, he requires support from the club, and we’re here to provide it.”
The Italian coach expressed confidence that the Ukrainian international will return to football once the situation is resolved.
“We support Mykhailo, and trust means that we believe in him,” Maresca said. “The club, the coaching staff, and everyone at the training ground—we all support and trust Mykhailo.
“I believe he will return, though we don’t know when. But for sure, he will come back.”
Under FIFA guidelines, players found guilty of intentionally taking a banned substance can face suspensions of up to four years, a penalty that would be a significant setback for the winger’s career.
