Former FIFA and CAF instructor Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has stated that Ademola Lookman’s African Player of the Year award was deserved and based on merit.
Lookman was the standout winner at the prestigious 2024 CAF Awards in Marrakech, where Africa’s top performers of the year were celebrated.
The Super Eagles winger was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year following an outstanding year with Italian club Atalanta. He follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who won the award in 2023.
“As a Nigerian, I take great pride in Ademola Lookman’s achievement, as winning the African Player of the Year is no small accomplishment.
He absolutely deserved the award, given his contributions to both the Super Eagles and Atalanta. The award was well-earned, with no controversy surrounding it.
“I hope he continues to build on this success and keeps scoring goals both in Europe and for Nigeria.”
