Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has shared his joy after being named FIFA’s Best Player for 2024.
The accolade crowns a remarkable season for the forward, who was instrumental in helping Los Blancos win La Liga, the Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup.
The award also underscores Vinicius’s outstanding consistency throughout the year.
In his acceptance speech, Vinicius reflected on his emotional journey, recalling his humble beginnings in São Gonçalo. He expressed gratitude for his family’s sacrifices and the unwavering trust placed in him by his coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
Today, I write to the child who once watched his idols lift this trophy. His time has come—or rather, my time has come. The time to say, yes, I am the best player in the world, and I have fought tirelessly to earn it.
“They tried again and again to undermine me, to diminish me. But they weren’t ready. No one can dictate who I fight for or how I should act. Back in São Gonçalo, the system overlooked me—it almost consumed me.
“I won this for myself, for my family, and for everyone who supported me along the way: Flamengo, Real Madrid, the Brazilian national team, my countless teammates over the years… and all those who stand by me daily and believe in me.
“The best player in the world. Number 7.”
