Mikel Arteta has expressed regret over not giving Raheem Sterling more playing time, despite Arsenal’s struggles in attack.
Sterling, who joined Arsenal on deadline day, has made just four starts this season, totaling only 356 minutes across all competitions.
Ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League match against Everton on Saturday, Arteta explained why Sterling has had a limited role.
“There have been moments. It’s been tough, and very difficult for me to accept that I haven’t given him more minutes,”. “When he hasn’t started, 90 percent of the substitutions I make are due to saving minutes, injuries, or injury prevention, not for tactical reasons.”
“I would love for him to play more, as I believe he can make a significant impact on the team. He’s excellent in the dressing room and is eager to play.
“He had an important role, influencing every game, and then suddenly finds himself in this position for a while, not just here but also at Chelsea.
“It’s always a tough situation, and I really sympathize with players going through this. Hopefully, we can change that.”
