Barcelona’s young talent Lamine Yamal faced racial abuse from Real Madrid fans during Saturday’s El Clasico at the Bernabeu.
Barcelona claimed a 4-0 victory with goals from Yamal, Raphinha, and a brace by Robert Lewandowski.
Yamal netted the third goal in the 77th minute, and as he celebrated with teammate Raphinha near the corner, a wave of abuse erupted from the home supporters in that area.
Several videos on social media show Madrid fans shouting slurs like ‘fking black’ and ‘fking Moor’ at the 17-year-old.
In another video taken near the end of the game, as Yamal prepared to take a corner, fans continued to hurl abuse, shouting phrases like ‘go and sell tissues at traffic lights’ and ‘f**king Mena,’ a derogatory term for young immigrants.
LaLiga and Real Madrid released statements on Sunday morning condemning the incidents.
Real Madrid firmly condemns any form of racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and sports, and deeply regrets the insults directed by a small group of fans last night in one of the stadium corners,” the La Liga champions stated.
